What engine to rebuild? How do I start?

I am new to this forum, so my apologies for any etiquette mistakes.

I am seriously thinking about rebuilding a 911 Engine. I was thinking about the 2.2L engine from a 1970 911T. I am starting the research and have a couple of questions:

1. Is this a good engine to start with? Is this average, easy or especially hard engine to work with?

2. Where would I be able to locate an engine that is appropriate to rebuild and how much should I expect to pay?

3. Are there any pitfalls that I should avoid as I start my search?

Thank you in advance for any help to get me started..

Christian,
Welcome to the Forum
You will find a lot of help here.

First some questions:
What are your intensions and potential use?
Is your choice of a 2.2T based on availability, simplicity or other?
What is your budget? (You needn’t post that but keep that in mind.)
What is your mechanic skill level?
How is your tool collection and home shop availability?

For a Porsche enthusiast, one of the more fun “home hobbies” is to rebuild your 911 engine and/or transmission. It is expensive, time consuming and very satisfying - particularly when you drive it.

You will find a huge number here who have done this. Everyone will offer you advice. The best news is the Forum is self-correcting so you don’t get lame BS. You will find advice from some of the best engine builders. In addition you will get great advice from many “first-time” builders based on their experience.

Everyone is dedicated to helping you have a successful experience. You found the correct forum. When you get to the engine details, that goes on this forum. Other 911 questions (like what car to buy) go on the 911 Technical Forum.

Best,
Grady
