1997 911 Top End

I origionally posted this in the tech tips forum.

I have a friend that recently bought a 1997 911. He had it for about a month and the distributer drive belt broke when his son was driving it. He didnt know anything was wrong. It burned a hole in the number one head, and damaged the top of the cylinder. He purchased a new head and had the cylinder repaired by US Chrome in Wisconsin. He took it apart himself, and I am going to put it back together for him. All 3 cylinders are off on the left side, and the parts are in baggies in boxes.

I am going to put this on my stand to start, but I cant locate the correct torx for the pressure plate bolts. A 6mm allen will fit, but I dont dare try to turn it with that. It is a 12 point torx of some sort. Where can I get this bit?

Also any tips on re-assembling this thing would be appreciated, including cam timing etc.

Autozone sells a kit of 4 sizes for $10. Don't try anything other than the correct tool or you will be very sorry.

Please understand that the '97 993 is probably the most complex aircooled 911 ever made, with exception of the Turbo. MANY special tools are required as are the factory workshop and parts manuals to guide you through the process. If you are prepared to make the commitment to source all that stuff, then this forum can be a great help.

Here's an old thread to get you started:

90 C2 - 964 rebuild
