Letting the engine sit on the heat exchangers
Quick question,
Is it going to hurt the heat exchangers on my 2.2 engine if I put it on a pallet with them still bolted to the engine? Can they take the weight of the engine without damage?

Didn't seem any worse for wear when we dropped my buddies 2.4 and left it on its HE's for a couple of months.

Just don't let it sit on the ground/floor. The heat exchangers will rust over time.

I've rested my engine on the heat exchangers before and it's been fine. My question is: what do you do if you have headers instead of heat exchangers? I would assume that you can't let it sit on the tubing.

If you get some 16mm bright steel rod and cut it into four equal short lengths you can poke each one through the holes in the heat exchangers that allow access to the heat exchanger retaining nuts. I also used a cable tie to keep the steel rods in place. Using this technique I did not mark my newly painted heat exchangers at all. I hope this makes sense...

Steve, interesting idea.. I guess then the weight lands on the top of the header bolts where the hex feature is... right? I've been using a few towels... when I set the engine down on the rolling pallet I put folded over towel strips down for each hex.
