Cost to rebuild 911T heads
I have a 911T 2.4 engine that's been sitting for a long time outside (in the car) without running and am going to have it torn down and rebuilt. I am wondering if the best way to go about this is to just buy a set of 2.2S pistons, s cams, and have the heads rebuilt. A couple of questions... First, does this sound like the best way to go about this? Second, I'm assuming that the heads will have to be rebuilt. Is this a reasonable assumption (the engine does not turn and has not yet been opened up). If so, how much can I expect to spend on the rebuild of the heads alone? Thanks. M

Valve job on 911 heads is around 600-1000 dollars depending on the shop. S cams won't work well with the T intake ports. I'd go with E cams or solex.

Thanks. I was thinking of having the ports modified, I guess. What I had in mind was to have the heads worked so as to have both intake and exhaust ports at 35mm and to use 46mm intake valves and 40mm exhaust valves. Does this sound right? About the cams, I like the idea of the S cams because the engine can redline at 7300 RPM with them, althought there is a lot less power at lower RPMs. E cams don't permit the engine to be quite so revvy do they? I've been seriously considering E cams too. I think they might be the better all -around cams. I don't plan to track this car, FYI. Not sure what to do! Thanks for any more input.

I wouldn't change the valve sizes (I'm not sure this is even possible). Your port sizes sound fine. I'd use the Solex grind. It's only slightly less top end than the "S" cams. I reved mine to 7200 with these cams. I think the redline for them is supposed to be 7000 though. E cams have a little more low end and a little less top end than the Solex. If you put in some slightly stiffer valve springs (DC cams street springs) then you don't need to worry about the revs.
