Trying to identify an engine, engine number is 6378840 - what is it? Could someone explain what the numbers stand for please. Also is it originally from a car with this chassis: 911531xxxx

hope someone will chime in for you and tell you if its ROW or US but just from looking at it i see a red fan shroud, CIS, metal fuel lines so im guessing a 80-83 3.0 SC engine.

HI Monkeydub.
you will need the engine type No' it is just behind the engine No' and should start with 930/xx, the engine No' looks like a 1977 engine?? with the wrong/late injection on it.

Hi Mike....sorry haven't called. Been incredibly busy. Will call ASAP about inspecting the car. Thanks for the info. Will try and get the other number.

HI Monkeydub
from the engine No' you have there it looks like a 2.7 engine , you will have to get the type No' to confirm which engine it has. I have been talking to Bert about the car and he has info on it and has been to look at it some time ago, I can give you his No' if you like and he is in the area this week.

That would be great. This topic was about another 911 i'd found. I'll call you tomorrow for the number.

Thanks, Rory

The engine number is 930/10

MBEngineering 01-30-2008 08:33 AM

HI Monkeydub
look on the link, as it is a 81 SC engine??

regards mike

MBEngineering 01-30-2008 08:40 AM

HI again, the engine No' should read 631 8840?? would you check that the "7" is actually a "1" and then it will tie up OK as a 1981 engine, and not this,
"6378840"

regards mike
