Lots of people around here have done it. Our host sells everything you'll need to rebuild one. Porsche publishes acceptable wear limits before reconditioning or replacement of engine internals.
The evidence suggests that either your instructor is wrong or that you misunderstood what he or she was saying.

Sorry but your professor is wrong.

We have rebuilt many turbocharged engines. We have also converted normally aspirated engines to turbocharged engines. We rebuild the turbochargers also.

This is just one of many cars with turbo engines we have rebuilt or modified.

This is one of the cars whose engine we rebuild once a year on the track

Maybe your teacher is talking about those turbo motors that are welded together and break down over time in the sunlight.

Dime a dozen.

My guess would be the teacher was referring to rebuilding the turbo unit itself, not the motor.

Also rebuildable.

I believe his instructor is misinformed or he misunderstood him/her.

Careful Tim, don't let that secret out. You can't turbo charge a naturally aspirated motor and not have it blow up. You should be burned for suggesting that anyone but father Porsche could build a turbo motor.

As for the OP. Find another teacher or challenge him in class and make him clarify what he said. Just because he is teaching the class doesn't mean he is qualified to do what he is teaching. What's that old saying, "those that can do, those that can't.......".

I rebuilt mine in my 930, did I just defy the laws of physics?
Some teachers say things just to say them, or maybe he just came from free-base tutorial...
