Distributor Question 2.7L Rebuild

After case failure on a 2.2L bored for 2.7L cylinders, I am rebuilding my 2.7L motor using a later 7R case from a '76 car. I just noticed the distributor I was running will not work. Where the distributor fastens to the case for timing adjustment is taller in nature than the old case was. It actually extends up, versus just being a stud next to the distributor port.

The engine has 90mm RS P/C's 8.5:1 (but true compression may be higher because it still has 2.2L heads), heads are ported to 36mm intake, stock exhaust ports, mod S-cams, running 40mm webers, it was a screamer before.

What type of distributor should I be looking for? If I run the standard distributor for the 2.7L without the vacuum advance will that be okay?

Any thoughts, suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,
Erik

You can add vacuum ports to your manifolds and use a stock 2.4/2.7 distributor or have a stock 2.7 converted to mechanical (only) and recurved for your application.
Do a search and you'll find shops that can do this service.

Sorry for the hijack... Henry, I'm building the same engine as this guy... RS spec 2.7 with 40 Webers. Can I run the stock curve designed for CIS with my webers if I install a vacuum port in the manifolds, or does the dizzy need to be recurved for the carbs regardless? thanks!!!

As long as cams and compression remain the same there is no need to recurve the distributor.
Since the cams are being upgraded to "S" spec I would highly recommend a recurve.
You might also search for a 73"S" distributor. The curve on the dist. will closely match the curve you need, if you are willing to run a vacuum advance.

I'm actually going to run Stock "E" cams...so I guess a recurve is in order. Also, you bring up an interesting point I've been meaning to ask about C/R. When CGarr rebuilt my heads, he skimmed .010" to clean up the sealing surfaces. Approximately how much of a bump in C/R should that produce, if everything else remains the same? Thanks for the input....
