C3 pistons ???

I bought a 1978 3.0 SC core engine for rebuild.
After close inspection with my mechanic we found something goes wrong here.\
At the crankshaft end there is NO 9 bolts but 6
The case is made of aluminium it is 930/02 type and 6670011 number.
We remove the LH cylinders/heads and #2 has minor water inside
Guess what the P/C is crap.Is 95MM but has different compression than a SC (8.5:1).Can I bought just one P/C from Porsche ? Are they still avail ? Anyone here who has a single one for sale ?

Thanks,
Jim

You have a '77 Carrera 3.0 engine
You need to know the height group of the cylinders
930 103 962 01 is the p/c w/ height group 5
930 103 962 02 is the p/c w/ height group 6

cr was 8.5 oem

yes, you can buy just 1 p/c set, but consier the wear exhibited by the others, You may want to get a full set w/ higher cr or bigger bore or both.

You can buy a used set of SC pistons and cylinders. I'd get Euro (9.8 compression) or later US spec pistons. Your 6 bolt crank is normal for that engine. Your engine is worth much more than an SC motor because it can be used as the basis for a short stroke race motor.

From what I have been reading your carrera 3.0 engine may be worth more than a regular SC engine. I don't know how much it is worth but maybe you can trade it for a decent SC engine in the used parts forum.

value is in the eye of the holder, the 930/02 used in the C3 uses the lighter 2.7 crank and flywheel, distributor(mit points) and a little better fuel distributor for the cis f/i, other than that it is exactly like the early SC engines that were derived from it.
