Flywheel bolts
I am taking my 2.0 l -67 engine apart and when I came to the flywheel I was expecting some special bolts with a 12 point star head, but in my engine there was regular bolts (14 mm). Was this standard on the 67 model engines or is this the result of an previous rebuild?
Anyway does anyone have any suggestions to how I can get these bolts out? I can not get a regular socket on the bolts, they are to close to center... I apologize for the pore quality of the picture, it was taken with my cell phone ![]() ![]()

These are not the correct type of flywheel bolt for the early engines.
They use the same 12 point bolt head as the later engines.

I believe that there are thin wall sockets available from some of the tool manufacturers, like Stanley and Mac, etc..... Alternatively you can turn one of your sockets down or if you have welding capability, weld a nut on the end of the bolts and use it to remove them. Also use a propane torch or equivalent to heat the bolts, prior to removing. Heat is your friend and will help you get them out of there.
regards, al

Here is what it should look like.
Verify there is a thick washer under the heads. Can't tell from the Nokia! Good luck! ![]()
