Leak between cam tower and cylinder heads

Hey guys,

I just recently finished up a top end rebuild with a friend (he did most of the building and I did all of the learning) on my '87 Carrera, and there is an oil leak between the cam towers and the cylinder heads. I believe there is no solid gasket made to be in between the cam towers and the heads, so we used a pink "high tack" form-a-gasket type compound. I'm not familiar with it at all and probably have the name wrong, but my friend who has rebuilt other engines has used it in the past.

Is it possible that the nuts securing the cam towers to the heads need to be re-torqued now that it's been driven a couple hundred miles? Or is there some other compound we should have used to make a gasket?

Thanks for your help.

Permatex "high tach" is a horrible choice for this application. Read this thread. Use these products and success is less of a gamble.

Thanks for the information, Henry. I take it by your response that you don't think it could be as simple as re-torquing the cam towers to the heads?

You might want to make sure the leak is not coming from the rocker arm shafts. When the shafts leaks, the oil flows between the cam tower and cylinder heads dripping on the heat exchangers.
