I have a 1966 911 5 speed with a 2.4 from a 72 or 73 model year. I have decided to rebuild the engine. I was thinking of making it a 2.7. Opinions, and or warnings and any and all general advice would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the board.
You are undertaking a monumental tack and I applaud you for trying. There are a plethora of options, unlimited advice and budgets that will make your head spin. It will take some direction from you in order for any of the wonderful sources of information can offer you any build specific advice. Thank you for the warm welcome! The car is in wonderful condition and will be babied and used as something to make my kids belly laugh on the odd Sunday. I will be using it for pleasure and hopefully a very long time. I wish to make it as perfect as possible and the rebuild is spurred on by a rear main seal leak and a less than perfect leak down and warm compression test. It burns a bit of oil but it sounds great. Aesthetics are very important and the budget is based on quality. I know a complete build by others can hover around $16k. I just know the 2.7 had early failure due to heat and the 2.4 is a very reliable poor cousin of the high flyer 2.7. I guess i would like to have both reliable long term service as well as a little extra oomph, seeing as the original 2.0 has been gone since late 1970's

Like Henry said, one would need a lot more information, but a properly built 2.7 is a VERY good motor as long as no shortcuts are taken and you have an effective front oil cooler setup. Its NOT cheap to build a durable mag-cased 2.7 but it can be done,... ![]() ![]()
