Engine drop , stupid question

Got a real dumb one for you guys, how high do you have to jack the back of the car up so the motor clears the bumper with, measured from the bottom of the bumper to the ground, the engine on a --- lets say a 4" high dolly, do you raise the front up too? Trying to avoid dropping the engine and not being able to get it away from the car. Its an 87 930 , had it for 5 months and I'm in love!
Yes I'm a rookie

Just went out to garage to measure. Mine is a Carrera so there might be some slight difference? I measure 35" from the lower bumper/valance to the ground.

The transmission jack that I use to drop the motor measures 8.5" off the ground in its lowest position. I still had to raise the car approx 6" more to clear.

So for your 4" in high jack I would say you need about 38"

Its a real balancing act to drop it alone, get some help if you can.

Good luck with it.

Removing the bumper is helpful as well and takes no time at all. It gives you a bit more room.

I wouldn't raise the rear of the car only, when i pulled my engine I raise the front of the car as well.

Oh and by the way Scott, congrats on your new toy. I've had my Carrera for about 3 years now and I'm still star-struck everytime I open the garage door and see my baby in there.
