Wayne's Top Picks - Cams for 2.7 High Compression
I am putting together a nice 2.7 MFI motor out of the remains of a rather nasty 2.7motor. This is to go in a 73 2.7RS recreation.
The plan is high compression with Mahle barrels and JE high domed pistons with standard S induction and a newly reconditioned MFI pump. The plan is to allow it to rev up to about 7500. The question then is that the old cams are no use so I have to find some others. I don't want to lose mid-range urge, but am looking to have a good pull all the way up. The car will be used for fast road and a few track days. Any thoughts on what are suitable cams to give good pep at the top end? Thanks Graham |

elgin cams
I would talk with Elgin Cams...I got what they called a DC-10 cut..I have no idea what that is...But when I was asking the same questions you were I kept getting sent there. Its a modification to the 964 cams, which is what I wanted.
BUT i have the CIS system. I would give them a call and ask what they have found works for your MFI set up. But then again you have the guys here on this board....Ask and you shall receive.

Graham,
You will need to know your precise compression ratio before choosing a camshaft, especially if you are using pump gas on single-ignition,... ![]() Further, MFI pumps are matched to the camshaft profiles and I would not stray too far from factory cams to prevent running problems.
