Strange Gunk (Chain housing backs)
Hi Folks,
Looking for ideas on what the gunk is in the photo. It's on both back sides of my chain housing and appears to be applied over the back-side of the guide bolts. It almost looks like some sort of epoxy, but not sure. In some areas it's actually melted off or completely gone. ![]() 1) Does this epoxies serve a purpose (like keeping oil from leaking)? 2) Would it be a good idea to remove this stuff and cover with JB Weld? All ideas welcome. Thanks in advance. Eric ![]()

+1 on what Aaron said. You can even powder coat over JB Weld.
