Rebuilding 2.7 seeking Advice
I have 12 Alusil Piston and Cylinders to work with, 4 cams, and 12 heads. I have been told that 4 of 6 P&Cs were in good shape, 2 cams look good and the heads look good. I am now debating on the best plan of action. Keeping in mind that this car is mainly going to be a street car.
One options is to send the cylinders, heads and cams to EBS to have them replate the cylinder (Nikasil), provide new JE pistons, regrind the cams, and redo the heads. The guy at EBS says he can go big bore (2.8) and more aggressive compression at 9:5:1. He also said that the CIS will be fine, I am changing the exhaust likely to SSI. This option will be approximately $3,100 (so he estimated). Second options, buy new P&Cs for $1,950 (2.7 8:5:1 compression), level the cam the same, SSIs. This option with head work will be about $2,700. Third options, re-ring the Alusil clyinders. However, I am not sure how that works exactly. The 1st set of P&Cs are already seperated and I don't know which P goes with which C. The second set is together but haven't had them measured yet so don't know the condition. Any experience or recommendations with this. Since I am not changing out the CIS, I am somewhat concerned about modifying the compression, bore, and cam without having the fuel delivery system to accompany it. Thanks in advance... |

Hi,
Hoping that you already have an effective front oil cooler, I would either: 1) Install new Mahle P/C's and keep it stock using the SSI's. or 2) Use the 2.8 JE's in Nikasil bores and keep the CR no higher than 9.2:1. You'll need to confirm this for yourself as one should never assume anything. Remember, each year 2.7's fuel distributor's capacity is different and some have a little more ability to ensure proper fuel/air mixtures than others.
