Block's cylinder mating refinishing

I posted this in the Technical Forum, but probably should have posted it here.

I recently gouged my block's cylinder mating surface (pictured below) while pulling head studs.

Can this be refinished and how much is allowed for removal? If so, do all 6 mating surfaces need to be the same height?

If I cannot resurface, I will use Permatex as I was advised in the Tech Forum

Eric,

If you need to remachine that surface true & flat, then ALL of the case spigots on that side need to be machined (decked) so they are all the same height. This is done in a milling machine.

Without seeing-feeling it for myself (pictures are 2-dimensional) I cannot offer an opinion, but the Permatex may work for you.

personally, i would trowl in a bit of JB weld, using a safety razor blade, them use a tiny little file to make it flush with the aluminum. permatex is gooey, JB is hard. i would not consider remachining all 6 spigos for that tiny issue.

I need to look at it a little closer, but it sounds like it is not an area where a minor gouge like this is going to cause issues.

My only worry with JB Weld is it's ability to hold up to the amount of pressure and heat in this location, but it sounds like it will. I just read it will handle temps up to 500 degrees F. I might try it on this issue.
