Motor build bling

Hey Guys,

I'd like to start a new thread where everyone posts NICE pictures of motor rebuilds. Pretty open... just show off your builds.

I have this one and one more I have to find pictures for that TOM AMON help me build. He did the hard work, I did the rest.

WAY TO GO TOM AMON!!!!

By the way... I have sound too. It sounds super classic for a 3.0 Liter. REALLY FUN!

Check out these sites to see more of this rebuild / and TOM AMON's site. He is a local rebuilder, for the Northern CA area... with tons of years of experience. He's the top shelf guy.

my 68 912 engine I rebuilt relatively stock. Got the motor with a screw stuck in the cylinder, dropped it, ripped it apart, replaced what needed replacing, sandblasted painted and slapped it together. Runs like a champ now!

hey, I'm 18.

You really can't expect too much. Someday I'll be your guys' caliper. (911's etc.)

I bet your 68 runs like a Swiss watch.

Well done.

After seeing your work you're already in our "calibre".

Not finished yet, but you get the picture (2.4S). This has seen loads of TLC past few months! Polished the fan using a Black & Decker mouse and then used POR15 Glisten PC. All hardware newly zinc-coated yellow. All engine tin and brackets etc black powdercoated. SSI's and new throttle bushings. Dealing with MFI pump install now.

Here's what an amateur's work looks like

It's lovely to see the work of the pros--it's definitely inspiration for my future builds. Here's what a first-time engine builder's amateur work looks like. I can definitely see where I can improve next time...

and almost ready for install....

What do you estimate an engine like mine is worth on the open market? (is it worth more in the car? -- or out? - what factors decide price?)

My engine is a standard 1980 3.0 Liter SC Engine - CIS / 964 Cams / 9.3:1 CIS Pistons / Nikasils / backdated heater ducts / Bersch RSR muffler.
It was rebuilt by Tom Amon (long block) and I completed the rest. It's going to be dyno'd soon. I expect it is putting out about 210HP or more.

Need more details? I am just curious what it's worth.

Backwards? Of course not! I built this 2.7RS to go in my '75 914. It should be a mid-engined rocket ship now....
