Bypass mod hole size, paging MBEngineering

Searching this site I came across this thread. MBEngineering suggests that the bypass mod hole needs to be a minimum hole size of 10mm, or "use a 10mm drill, any less will give you oil press' prob's." What kind of pressure problems are we talking about? I see the hole in my case measures about 9mm. A 3/8" (9.5mm) drill bit will not fit.
