Question Oversize 2.2 piston rings

Hello everyone!

I want to ask you if you know where can I find piston rings for my 70 2.2 lts, first oversize piston rings (which can be .010'' or .25mm) . I've had some troubles finding the correct ones for the car for some time.

The cylinders have .5mm of wear which is in the std limits but the rings I bought again fit worse than the used ones (Ring gap in the new ones are .020'' or .55mm and the used ones had .016 or .40mm).

I want to know where can I find the correct rings, the P/C are in the std limits with no excessive wear but somehow Goetze rings does not seam to fit...

Any suggestions?

New Mahle pistons/cylinders 2.7
Piston rings, wrist pin & rod bush
I suspect that's what you will get from the rings.

How about Total Seal rings? No end gap to worry about on the 2d ring (or 1st, depending on which you get as an overlapping seal).

From perusing posts here, it seems that ring thickness may be more of an issue. Well, actually it is wear on the ring lands in the piston - if the ring slots get too wide - that is the bad news, as it leads to ring breakage.

Do these pistons, which wore the cylinders wider, still have ring grooves within spec?

How about having the worn cylinders plated back to stock specs? I just had that done with some 95mm Alusils, which are now Nikasils. Not a $5 job, but price worthy compared to a new set. And I've heard of people doing this kind of thing with the early iron cylinders.

Yeah, the P/C are in spec, .002 wear limit on the cylinders which is almost new, and the pistons are perfect according to the specs.

I see two practical choices:

1) Use oversize rings (dealer item) and hone the cylinders to fit.

or

2) Use Total Seals, however you'll need to hone the cylinders to get a fresh sealing surface for that to work.

I got a set of custom rings through EBS in Reno. I'd give them a call. They advertise in all the Porsche magazines and I'm sure they have a website. They sourced the rings through an american company (don't remember the name).

In the 1) option, I haven't seen one dealer that has oversize rings for sale, specifically the .010'/.25mm size.

Speaking of the 2) option, would you suggest the regular rings with gap or the gapless, if the second is the option, the second ring or the first ring shall be the gapless?

I want to have something to fit my original P/C 'E' specs

And I believe that if you are going to reuse the Cylinders always shall be honed to achieve the correct sealing right?

How are they working for you?

I've mailed them if they have options!

BTW do you still post on DDK?

These are Porsche factory items and not stocked in the US. I just looked and its in the current PET so call a dealer and have them check availability.

I use the gapless ones in the second position, only.
