2.7 back running after head bolts tightened

I tightened the head bolts to about 20 lbs, only a few on the drivers side exhaust were loose. While it was open I attempted to adjust the valve clearance, I obtained a special tool for access. I found some loose and some tight. I timed the engine with a timing light but only at idle as I could not find much info about it in the manuals I have. The engine now runs better and no longer has an exhaust noise. I have'nt driven it much yet. It seems to have minor valve clatter that it did not have before or I can not remember if it had the same valve clatter as before. How about the timing light, and valve clatter. The engine still leaks oil. I am not sure where from as its above the exhaust, likely from the sides of the cylinders or valve covers. I can take apart the exhaust again and have another look if I get the energy. I do plan to remove the engine and send parts out as needed. Thanks alot for the advice from those who read and respond to this. D.K.
