Replacing Rod Bolts and Nuts?
How necessary is it to replace the rod nuts and bolts? The torque is only 15 pounds ish, so why replace them?
Thanks. |

OEM rod bolts are torque-to-yield fasteners and cannot be reused once they have been installed and torqued up.
You don't need to replace them if you do not remove the rods from the crank. If your engine will see extended high-RPM usage, replacing the OEM bolts with ARP ones is recommended, however the rods should be reconditioned and reinstalled with new bearings.

Steve
The standard mantra is replace the bolts and the nuts. I understand the bolt part, but the nuts? Is that just standard Porsche (and shop's rebuilding 911s) caution? Or have you seen a nut fail? Walt |
