where else could my engine number be..?

I bought what was posted as a 911 2.2 t engine today but cant seem to find any serial numbers ..

serial number on the vertical flat part on the right side of the fan housing. type number is on the flat boss just behind that , right under the RH duct elbow.

If you don't find them where Don mentioned, it could be a 914-6 case with the S/N up next to the breather cover and T-Stat.

It usually is by the fan but this engine doesn't have it... Any benifit or drawback to the 914-6 case this engine is going into a 914

Here's what the S/N and type# stamping looks like on a 914-6. For reference, the large hole is for the engine T-Stat.

that should be it. possibly an un-numbered replacement case? worth a few bucks in that case. any evidence of grinding/sanding at either location?

B.t.w sorry for the heavy breathing I got called into do some sparring with the us national boxing team and got caught with ten seconds left in sparring after about 9 rounds of sparring with 3 different guys and tore a vessel in my nose so it has been giving my some issues.. lol ..

if a good, straight case with no issues. it is worth considerably more than a numbered case. guys whose number-matching engines have gone astray like un-numbered cases to replace the missing one. particularily 'S' cars. do a little searching here, you'll find more info.

What is the casting number on the bottom of the case. It will be right next to the oil return tubes.

You may not have a 2.2. I do not think I have seen an unnumbered case on these small displacement engines.

In your first photo, the fan ring support face where the serial number is usually stamped appears to be strangely absent of corrosion.

Take a closer look and see if there are any grinding marks indicating that the serial number may have been removed.

there are no grind marks for sure I do cylinder head fabrication and have a very good eye for grind marks or scratches it looks like that because I sprayed the whole engine down with wd40 a few hours before I took the video ..

There are un-numbered cases of all vintages including the aluminum cases.
There are two casting numbers, you've posted 102.3R, on the other side is 101.?R . You may also find some casting dates on both halves like 14/71 the location depends on the year I think. The numbers would help my research. The "R"'s are revisions and can indicate a date plus some internal characteristics.
I agree that an un-numbered case is the most likely possibility. If that is so, then you cannot be sure of what is inside without a teardown.
