				How to compress tensioners

I have replaced hydraulic tensioners before but have not had the issue of not being able to compress the tenisoner so that the grenade pin can be put back in. In the past I have been able to compress it by pressing it hard against a brick wall and inserting the pin. With both the left and right side they won't budge.

Is this normal? Should I put them in a vice and slowly force them to compress (slowly force the oil out of of them)? My plan is to install them with the pins in, time the cams then pull the pins. Thanks Chris 73 911 E |

When I rebuilt my engine I either placed them in a vice or used a big set channel lock pliers to compress them.......Hope this helps

The only way I ever got them in was with a vise, slowly compressing so they bleed off without damage.

Did someone install the internal stops? This would keep you from getting the pin in.

they compressed easily in the vice. Had an old one that I replaced and it copressed by hand (probably why it was replaced).
