Cranckcase hard oil line install
Hi guys:
Continuing with my rebuild, I have a question: What is the preferred method to install the hard oil line in the crankcase? Before the install of the oil return tubes (non collapsible) or after all is assembled? The car is a 1985 Carrera. NOTE: Always check your new ARP nuts, mine came with one without threads (cylinder head studs kit). Thanks in advance for your advice, Francisco Soto. |

I put the long block together then start adding the auxillary parts. Carrera line is located to the right chain box with an extention and an open clamp, then tighten.

Weren't you asking about the oil line from the oil pump, left side lower forward? I find it hard to get a wrench on the fittings for this if the left front oil return tube is in place. So I'd install the line first, then the tubes, then the cam carrier, etc.
What I actually do is install a removeable return tube in that position. That way I can deal with the scavange line at my liesure, and not have a pip in my way while doing the other tedious chores. |

Hi Walt:
That one line. Actually I have 2 expandable tubes so you gave me a great idea. ![]() Thanks Walt. |

Uh oh my non-collapsible return tubes are already installed and that oil line is not. Surely I can get it on somehow. I know I removed it before removing the return tubes.

You can. I think the problem tends to be more acute when removing the line, where you are apt to have to counterhold the case fitting so it doesn't move while you break the nut on the end of the line loose. |

Thanks Walt. I ended up installing it before the headers so it wasn't a problem.
