cylinder base gasket sealant
Wayne's book indicates to apply some curil T to the cylinder base gaskets but has you apply it after all the cylinders are installed but not yet torqued. If Curil T is a non-hardening sealant is there any reason I can't put in on the base baskets while installing the pistons? - certainly would be easier.

Huh? It says that? Doesn't make any sense, as the Curil is not an exterior sealant, and is too thick to wick.
I had never used it before, but on the current motor I did, and applied it before installing the Ps. It squished out nicely on the outside, which I wiped off as best I could. On the other hand, I have not had leaks in that location before when installing dry, so I am not convinced it is necessary. Since I had a tube I decided I'd try it anyway - hard to see how it would hurt. With 30 lbs/ft on Supertec studs, it isn't going to affect tolerances. |

Thanks Walt. I was WRONG. Wayne mentions usine locktite 574 for base gasket sealant. I can understand why that would be put on last. My whole question was unnecessary.

I don't use anything on the base shims, never had an issue, I would not use 574 for that duty period

Right - sometimes the barrels are hard enough to remove without adding what amounts to a pretty strong glue.
