Thanks Bill, this is the 300 plus mount I think. I also saw options using the stock Vette LS1 mounts modified. Did you get your coils figured out?

I gave up on the COP's for now. I think WinRice ended up using Motorcycle coils and gave up on the Porsche COP coils as well. AEM had a nice looking coil but I read a lot of negative feedback on them. I was looking at doing what you are doing with the Denso's and a pair of M&W boxes. What CDI are you using? Are you trying to get as close to the plug as possible? You should also reach out to Chris at Turbokraft. He has done some really nice and clean builds with coil packs. He may have something that will work for you.

Bill,
Motec and an expander, running the 12 Coils (in waisted Spark). We have Bosch Motorsports coils now, but they require igniters, and that is just another failure point, so the 580 is the way to go.. LS2 Vette is what I have now.. Andrew |

Andrew,
I have been looking at the LS2 coils as well but they are not designed to run in waisted spark or two ignition events per revolution. I have not tried myself but understand the coils may well overheat configured to give two pulses per rev and pushing them with 6000 plus RPM, 12000 RPM to the coils.

The cop's for the 91 turbo VW have built in igniters so all you need is a 5v signal.

LS2 and 580, from what I see are the same design, and if you split the signal from the source, in my case the Motec expander, there is only on spark instance per coil per revolution, so, overheat is a non issue here..
In other words, one coil per plug, and one 5V pulse signal from the expander to trigger the coil. Motec sells the 580 just for this config.. Andrew |

580 and LS1 and LS2 coils have built in igniters as well.. Power, ECU ground, Chasis ground and 5V signal are the wires that feed them..

Andrew,
In speaking with Motec a few years ago they have had good success with that setup. It sure would be cheaper than 12 CID coils and a pair of M&W boxes. Are you going to set it up so you can turn off the top or bottom coils for testing purposes? Otherwise it is hard to tell that they are all firing until its to late.

Yeah bill, landed all 12 for 50 US. not to shabby..
I am using Paul Schwarz from Bodymotion/PCNA and Cyntex and Dougherty fame as my Motec Guru, so we will have them wired to ease troubleshooting. Just need a cost effective mounting sollution. lookslike a stock vette mount can be modified quite easily, and are not tooooooooooo pricey.. |

I have a picture somewhere of a mount, I believe the modified gm mount. If I can find it I will post it for reference. I may end up using the denso's for that price point.

I do still have your email address. If you lost mine let me know and I will drop you an email. I did find another thread for you to look at. Below are some images from the thread. Its single plug but you can clearly see how he mounted the coils.

Thanks Bill, that will be kept as an option, very straight forward.
Shoot me an email, I am on a new PC, and my addy's are lost, so I am rebuilding... I saw pics of lower coils mounted on the tin, that seems easy enough as well.... A |

I send you an email tonight.
I saw a thread with the coils on the lower tin as well somewhere. My only concern is the heat from the headers down below. |

Heading out to souce the Alum stock to mimic the pictured mount, so straight forward its silly.
Just need the GT3 crank balanced with the new custom R+R rods, and we shall start the 3.6 Race build.. I have a design for a heat shield for the lowers, very basic, and since our car is a track car, the airfow in the engine bay should keep temps down.. We shall see... |
