EGR valve to be dealt with...
I have a 1981 911 3.0sc with a EGR (exhaust gas recirculation kit) valve that needs replacing but can't source a replacement anywhere. Anyone get a EGR valve recently for a 3.0sc and have the part number lying around?
Or Anyone successfully do a DIY job on blocking off the EGR, can you give me detailed details of how you did it, or even photos of your new EGR set up if you have them just hanging around on your desktop, as you do.... ![]() ![]() Last edited by bspoke20; 08-14-2011 at 12:39 PM.. |

The biggest problem is the hole in the airbox and you can remove all from the bottom of the engine and fold over the entrance to the muffler to seal it.

Still having problems with this part, some are saying it is a PSV valve not a EGR, either way I can't find it available anywhere because I don't know exactly what I'm looking for.... anyone have the patience or knowledge to find it on the porsche catalog diagrams http://www.pelicanparts.com/PartsLookup/Parts_Lookup_Main_Page.htm (1981 3.0sc) thank you so much if you can help me

The 81 US SC did not have an EGR valve. From 80 -83 the SC engine had a catylitic converter and a Lamda control unit.
The parts do not appear to be Porsche parts to me. My guess is that you have a Euro SC with a grey market smog conversion.

@Henry: Yes it is a Euro version SC (UK car), what do you mean by "grey" market smog conversion?

Quote:
There were companies that specialized in importing these higher horsepower/ cheaper cars into the US. The problem was these "Grey Market" (not quite black market) cars were not smog and DOT legal. Companies converted these cars using any parts available, then had them tested so that they could be sold for use in the US. If you remember the movie Rain Man, you might remember the dilemma faced by Charlie Babbitt was the failure of his exotic cars to pass testing. That testing was DOT/ EPA certification.
