carrera tensioner
While disassembling my 3.2 I was not able to compress the tensioner to insert the "grenade pin" before removing the tensioner, so it popped fully open. Does this harm it?

That's how you remove them. When you install you'll need the use of a vice to compress and install the pin, slow pressure with the vice to compress.

Sometimes you can use water pump pliers to compress the tensioner, before you remove it, just enough to insert the grenade pin. Saves having to put it in a vice.
The "pop" if you just pry the tensioner off is disturbing, but does not seem to hurt anything. At least it has not hurt mine. |
