KS piston in a Mahle cylinder?
Hi folks,
I am new in this forum, hope i can get a little help! My 2,7s has damage a Mahle piston. The cylinder looks fine no problems there. I am now looking for at replacement piston, and i found a used Kolbensshmitt (KS) piston which is within spec. The KS piston has been running in a Alusil cylinder, and my cylinders are Nicasil cylinders. The question is: Can i put the KS piston in my nicasil cylinders with out any problems? I will of cause put at new ring-set on all pistons. Thanks in advance. Henrik |

You should match what youre running. There is a casting number in the bottom side of the piston, it will start with 90. In Mahle, the number tells you if the cylinder is nikisil or alucil, as Mahle made both. The KS is only alucil.
You then need a size for the cylinder, 0, 1, possibly 2, its on the face of the piston and next to the deck height on the cylinder. There is plenty to choose from to exactly match the set you have but you have to be able to advertise all you need. Bruce |

No. You cannot mix the two. Alusil uses an iron coated piston (to be the harder part) and Nickasil uses a hard cylinder wall and Aluminum piston to be the softer part.
