another rebuild OH S&!T
My buddy came over and we got the pistons and cylinders in on my 3.6 re-rebuild. We were on a roll so we installed and torqued up the heads. It all went very nicely.
The problem is I did not clean out the oil or assembly lube that was used by my machine shop to install the pistons into the cylinders. There wasn't much in there, but I'm concerned about potential problems seating the rings. I assume that assembly lube is more problematic than engine oil so I can call my machine shop in the morning to be sure what was used. I had my local foreign parts shop get me 6 new head gaskets just in case. What should I do? Nothing, rotate & blow the cylinders out with brake cleaner through the plugs holes, or pull the heads back off to clean it up? Thanks, alan |

Whenever I assemble pistons into cylinders, I wash the cylinders out with super hot water and regular dawn dish soap. I make sure the cylinders are super duper squeaky clean before continuing.
I never trust that anyone has cleaned properly. Maybe some of the experts on here can chime in and help out as well. |

Alan, I'm no expert, but I'd turn the motor over by hand and wipe out each cylinder and relube them according to your preference and move on. Assymbly lube used during a build will work it's way through there anyways, but you're right to try to minimize it.
Good luck with your build and post up some pics ![]()
