Head nut, standard 993 steel, lube or not?
Hi There
I have looked on this and other forums, but could not find the answer. On my 1994 993 engine I have standard part threaded steel studs (thank you for the information provided in my other stud related thread). I am fitting the heads and have decided to use engine assembly lube on the stud threads and nut seats. Is this right? It does not say in the manual. Tomorrow I intend to torque to 15lbs then 90 degrees. Also does anyone know if the cam tower bolts should have the blue semi permanent thread lock on them, or indeed some lube? I cannot find a picture of the tightening sequence but am guessing it is inside out. I shall do it gently and incrementally in any case. All the best and many thanks Berni |

Anti seize paste is the recommended lube to use on the head stud threads and the washer surface beneath the nuts.
RE the cam housing torque, no threadlocker needed. The spring/wave washers are all that's needed (and even those are arguably effective). The torque sequence is inside-out, from the centerline out. Meaning you torque the centerline of the cam housings inside out (two middle nuts, then the other four outboard nuts are torqued cross-wise) then you go back to the middle of the cam housings and work inside-out in a cross-wise pattern on the perimeter nuts.
