Electromotive ignition 2.0 to 2.7
I have an electromotive HPV-1 system fom a 2.0 liter engine. I want to use it on a 2.7. I know the distibutors are different, what do I need to do to make this work?

Your sensor bracket is different than mine (3.0L case). My bracket mounts to the case without using the distributor bore. The bore is filled in with a plug. Your bracket looks like one that uses the bore as a mount point. You may simply have to get a different bracket to mount the sensor in agreement with the 2.7 case distributor bore.
See Clewett's pages to see what I mean Late bracket Sensor mount, 911 1972 and later [1001-46] - $89.60 : Clewett Engineering, The complete solution for ignition & fuel injection Early bracket Sensor mount & plug, 911 up to 1971 [1001-41] - $164.00 : Clewett Engineering, The complete solution for ignition & fuel injection

Are the 7R mag cases the same as a 3.0 aluminum as far as the distributors are concerned?

Well the 7R case was introduced in '72 with the 2.4, according to Anderson's Performance Handbook. So it should use the same trigger adapter as the 3.0

These combined distributor hole plug and sensor mounts are nifty pieces. But they are not the only way to do things.
You can mount the toothed wheel outside the pulley, and mount the sensor to the motor mount cross bar, using the upper two 8mm bolts to hold it in place. If the mount you fabricate is done right, the sensor will be at the case parting line. Two of mine are of this variety. The Clewett system, with the wheel inside of the pulley, is a slightly better system, because you can change the fan belt without extra effort. But neither one is any different as far as functioning goes. I like the Electromotive, which has proven bombproof for me on my twin plug 2.7 race motor from 1995 through 2009. |
