				993 3.6 Cooling Baffles

The Porsche PET shows (6) upper cooling baffle plates (one per cylinder) for the 3.6 motor in the 993. However, on the teardown of my 3..6 out of a 1998 993 (last model year for the air cooled motor) there are not any upper baffles mounted on my motor (the lower baffles are there as pictured in the PET). At first I suspected that someone had removed the baffles at a time prior to my ownership; however, as I looked closer, the cylinders do not have the mounting tab or tapped hole for the required retaining screws for each baffle. This leads me to wonder if Porsche actually deleted the baffles on this last series engine. Am I correct? The only tapped holes on the top of the cylinders are the ones used to mount the bridge that carries the knock sensors.

Bruce, So, you are not used to seeing any sheet metal baffling on the top of the cylinders, right? The baffles shown on the PET are priced at about $35 each (6 required) in the Pelican search. Thanks for your reply. Ernie

Bruce, I just had a conversation with Steve Weiner and asked him about the PET diagram that shows the baffles I've questioned. He commented that these baffles are not part of a 3.6 motor configuration. He's not sure where they might be used, but confirmed that the 3.6 engine does not use them.

Thanks Bill. I think that solves the issue. Since my motor is a N/A, there were never any baffles on top.
