84-89 Pictures Request

All,

I have been subjected to complete another person's project and I want to do the best job that I can.

I am asking if anyone can post pictures of the routing of the DME wiring harness from the engine compartment to under the drivers seat. I have some ideas, but would rather do it as close to how the factory did it instead of reinvent the wheel.

From recollection, the DME harness enters the car away from the center tunnel and runs along the outside of the car under the drivers seat to the DME control unit, the DME relay in the center and the altitude sensor toward the outside of the car. (another school of thought is that the harness enters near the center tunnel and does just the opposite of what I described above)

The car I am modifying is a 1974 coupe and I am installing a stock 1985 DME engine. (along with a whole host of other 84-89 Carrera bits)

I really appreciate your help in this.

Thank you in advance.

John

The DME harness go through the drivers side, rear seat floor pan like a bulkhead (crosses through the left corner and has a thick sheath that looks like it is caulked into place on the outside). It hugs the floorboard along the deepest, left side of the floorboard where it it is anchored.

It channels through the seat mount that is hollow from the backside and exits before the front part of the seat mount (it goes in then comes back out the seat mount if that makes sense) where it snakes around to the right finally connecting to the DME.

Thanks!

I have some pictures of the interior. I was also wondering about the routing on the engine compartment side, but it seems (from the pictures I have found) that the harness exits the interior on the far drivers side just below the drivers side rear seat in front of where the CIS fuel pump would mount. It appears that the harness runs right where the CIS fuel pump mounts and follows the seam up behind the bulkhead between the upper shock mounts. I assume that there are some anchor points on the 84-89 bodies that the 74 did not have.

Another item I am interested in seeing a picture of is the fuel filter mount holes and the holes that mount the coil in a 1984-1989 body.

I saved several pictures that FLAT6PAC took of a Carrera that he refreshed the engine on and he had several shots that are helping me. I continue to search for more. I would like this one to appear as closely to a 1985 engine bay as I can duplicate (without the benefit of comparing the two).

Thanks,

John
