Ring End Gap 2.7 Race Engine
I'm in process of building up a high compression (11:1 calculated) mechanically injected 2.7L for some club racing. Engine machine work is done and I have brand new J&E pistons (89.992mm/3.534") made for the cylinder bores (90.017mm/3.544"). Cylinder wall clearance is good @ .035mm/.001". Problem is with the new Goetze rings I got with with the rebuild kit from EBS (not their fault). When measured near the bottom of the cylinder bore (as recommended), the ring end gaps ranged as follows:
Top Ring: from .016" to .019" Mid Ring: from .013" to .018" Oil Ring: from .017" to .023" So the problem is that initial ring gap for most will be larger than recommended spec but well under the wear limit. Can I set each ring (top, middle, oil) to match the largest of the group and be ok? Thanks for your comments. Gerry

Not sure of the question but it seems to be typical that the ring gap is bigger than what new should be. Here are a few posts of mine on a similar issue.
