Race engine mods - snake oil ?

Folks,

The specialist who I am consulting with on my race engine build doesn't believe in the some of the more esoteric mods like coatings (heat and friction), and metal treatments like micro shot-peening (WPC) and cryogenics. What are your opinions / experiences. Do these have any real benefit - and if they do, are they cost effective?

Dave

Dave, please don't cross-post the identical message as it messes up the database. Thanks, you should get some good answers in the tech forum.
