Best Rallye Motor based on a a SC 3.0 case?

First off I sure appreciate all of the advice and energy that the contributors offer, daily in this forum. I live on a Island people ask why I have a 911, I do my best to be humble and give a polite answer. Put the fact is I have a long standing desire to build a vintage 80's era 3.0 that is well suited for my windows of opportunity on the fun roads of Kauai. I understand the most important element is the safety of the public. Just wanted the input the best builders in the business. I understand a 3.2 or a stock 3.6 conversion could be more economical but I wanted your thoughts in regard to a potent 3.0 case based motor with miles of torque and the personality suited for driving A-B with intent.

Regards-
JS
Anyone have SCRS motor specs?

For rally use, especially with twisty courses without long straights, Torque is King.

That means there is no "replacement for displacement" and one of the very best combinations is either a 3.4 or 3.5 made on an SC or Carrera bottom end.

Depending on your budget, I'd recommend either 98mm or 100mm P/C's and a Carrera crank. You might need a set of Carrera rods, depending on what P/C's you ultimately use. With the MM 98mm ones, single ignition is perfect, however the 100mm ones require twin-ignition.

Such long stroke torquey engines work well with stock gears and thats a BIG consideration.

We've had a 911SC/RS here, but they are quite different in every respect. Those had a mild 3.0 making 270BHP using a modified tall-butterfly RSR MFI, low compression and single ignition with RSR headers and a race muffler.

An affordable 3.0 based on an SC case:

Stock SC crank
Stock SC rods with ARP bolts
10.5 : 1 JE pistons
Stock Mahle cylinders
Stock '78 or '79 heads
GE-60 cams
Weber or PMO 46 carbs
Twin plug with MSD
European headers
Stock 915

Throw away every bit and piece of the car that isn't absolutely necessary; make it light.
I built this motor for about $7500 using this site for parts.

this engine was fairly cheap to build. pretty much just JE's, cams, and webers. a torque monster.

3.0 dyno day - a pleasant surprise
