Replacing one crankcase stud

A nut and the end of the stud have broken off from the crankase of a 1995 993 c2. It is located on the bottom and I believe is the m8 x 48mm stud (99906207502).

If I drill this out (very carefully) will I be able to just insert the stud thru the left side and screw it into the right side and replace the nut? Or do I have to split the case to do this? It seems the hole in the left side of the case is not threaded and this should be possible. Thoughts?

This seems doable. If you can get the broken piece out, getting a new stud in should be easy. You could even just use a bolt. And if somehow the threads in the right case half get damaged, you can repair that also with any one of several methods and materials.

Getting the broken part out is the tough part.

Did, perhaps, the breakage happen when someone was trying to stop an oil leak by torquing the nut a bit more?
