87 Carrera Nikasil or Anusil?

I am getting all my parts together for a rebuild and don't have the experience with the 3.2 engines and need to know what I have and how to prep them for reuse.
I contacted our host to source all the parts I need but just want to make sure of what I am getting is correct. Is all the P/C in 87 nikasil or what!
take a look at what I have and let me know. Thanks!

That second picture tells you they are Alusil by the symbol next to the 885 number on the cylinder base. That is a Kolbenschmidt cylinder. The color of the cylinder interior in picture 4 is also indicative of Alusil

Jury is still out on these. Most will say you cannot re-ring Alusil and they shold be replaced. Others have had decent success with cleaning in hot soapy water and re-using the existing pistons rings. Just have to keep them all sorted to stay with the pistons and cylinders and grooves they came from. Also need to ensure the ring lands and ring gaps are still in spec.

Or you can hone them...... Grab some beers and read (and read, and read, and read) this thread

Re-ring Alusils?

Everytime I do a project it seems I have something bad that happens. As it seems.. This time is a broken ring. When I was pulling it apart I broke one. At the time I said no big deal but now it seems to be a big deal! Have to do something different than reuse the same rings..or atleast that one.

It's a gamble to re-ring or re-use Alusils. You might get lucky and have the rings seat or you might not. I went through the same decision on this with my 89 3.2. Your other options are to search Pelican for a set of in-spec good used Mahle Nickasils or to have your set replated with nickasil and use new JE pistons. After considering all options I decided to buy a brand new set of Mahle pistons and cylinders. I found a great price on a set and was able to sell my alusil set as cores to a Pelican for $500 to offset the cost of the new set. PM me and I'll tell you where I got the new Mahles and what I paid for them.

OK... I have done a little research and need some help.

I have a matched set of nakasil cylinders from an SC 3.0.
I looked at the specs in Wayne's book and see no difference in 3.0 and 3.2 cylinders.
Is this correct?

Next.. when I put the 3.0 engine together I was using carbs and I bought a set of JE's
The part # at the time was 212435 and I think that the same part is #274048
I tried to check to see what the difference on the spec sheet to this set of 3.0 pistons to the 3.2 JE's pistons.
I would like to know if there is any problem with interference or anything else that would make it not possible to use the 3.0 JE's with a 3.2 engine?
Also I will be using the original fuel injection.
Any help getting this back together would be appreciated!

First....The difference between 3.0 and 3.2 cylinders is only the CE groove at the cylinder to head sealing surface. This present on the 3.0 cylinders and not on the 3.2 cylinders. The two different types are interchangeable.

Next....The difference between 3.0 and 3.2 pistons is in the wrist pin. The 3.0 uses a 22 mm wrist pin while the 3.2 uses a 23 mm pin. These are not interchangeable without modifying the connecting rods.

Thanks for the help Tom!
I am unsure what the CE groove is but when I have them side by side I bet I will be able to tell what you are talking about.
So I would not have to make any changes in the 3.0 cylinders ?
They will mate up without any problems?
