Thanks for the video. As always it's a matter of degree and is hard to tell from the video exactly how much 574 you are using but appears to be somewhat less than I use. I also noticed you use a spatula to level it out which gives more control vs. the acid brushes I have been using so will get some spatulas on amazon. I guess I have to question why use the 574 around the bolt bores at all? If these machines surfaces leak a little bit so what? It just leaks into the crankcase and am sure the oil pump could handle the extra oil volume of a small leak here? Why not just avoid the problem all together? Unrelated I have been using TiteBond around the case extremities per the 911 sealing thread. I also use on the cam towers. It is better at sealing any irregulaties and have not had any leaks on the last couple of builds, BUT, it is a royal pain to clean off (as I am doing now with my current problem). Ivan your thoughts on the Titebond (that grey sticky stuff) vs 574?

Around the bolts i apply the same amount or a little less,just enough so you cannot see any shine from the case.
Also around the inter shaft bearings i use little.The main thing is i only apply to one side of the case.

Unfortunately i am gone from US of A for over 9 years so i only use 574 stuff i know .The Titebond could be good but i would not know.

Another thing i saw in this thread is weird for me..??As the Op mentioned using oil on trough bolt o rings so they spin nicely...That is wrong .Those o rings should not spin what so ever on assembling the engine trough bolts.The washer also cannot spin.Once they spin your o rings will go kaput.

I saw the threebond, Hondabond, yamabond years ago and asked about it. The reply at the time was “you never see a oil leak on a Yamaha motor cycle.”
I have opened cases when the instructions weren’t read so the leak was the whole centerline.
The product has to be applied to both flanges.

Ivan, good description on the amount of 574 to use. I will try. I also do NOT put oil on the through bolt orings, instead (per Dempsey's book) also put a little bead of RTV for an extra level of sealing insurance around the oring with good results on last few motors.

Bruce, I've only used the Threebond 1184 and no mention of using on both surfaces on instructions. It would be way too much material to put on both surfaces as it is much thicker than the 574. However I am meticulous about wiping clean both surfaces with alcohol just prior applying the grey gooey stuff to make sure you get good bond. I've had no problems

Hi Andy..the best o rings to use on trough bolts are the green type..nothing else,ever....green is Viton ....

Bringing back an old thread... this poster mentions you can use a borescope to check placement of the oil seals prior to running?

Anyone done that? How exactly would you do that?
