Pre coffee buzz

I had a chance to ride in an incredible car this morning. Talk about an eye opener.
1954 356 pre A coupe.
Why is this in the 911 engine building forum? Take a look.
This little gem has a 2.6 liter Polo engine. 76.4 X 104mm
Rated at about 230 hp the car hauls ass.
The engine is hooked to the ground through a 901 transmission with racing gear ratios and 911 suspension. The brakes are from a Boxster.

I think I finally get it. Why should you build a 4 cylinder 911 engine? Because it's as cool as a 356 can get. IMHO

Those engines are pretty cool aren't they? There's a local guy that has a Speedster with one, lots of other trick bits on it too...not to mention the guy is a really nice fella.

The price is huge on those engines...but I guess if you can afford a pre-A who cares.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

I'm thinking a replica 4 cam engine @ $170,000 that only produces 160 or so horse power is a truly huge/ stupid price. At around $30K the Polo engine prices out around the same as a trick 911 engine.

Yep, but on the other end of the scale for $10-12K I can build a 180hp+ type4 with Nickies.

I understand the price break. I built a few special project type IV engines before I knew better .
I guess you just have to drive a Polo engine and hear it spin to understand how sexy it really is.

Henry,

We do not always agree but on this one we do. That is a sweet little motor and Dean is a very nice guy. Had the chance to see and hear one of his creations on the dyno. Very cool package.

If I understand correctly, all of the Polo engines built by Dean have been twin plugged.
At least one has Electromotive crank fire but most have a distributor conversion that starts with a CB 009 replacement. Then Dean makes a converter plate (similar to the old Andial conversion) that puts a Nissan cap and rotor on it.

This Electromotive 2.4 Polo is in a very nice 912.
