Deves Rings
What is the opinion on Deves rings?
My 1973.5 cis has 6 month only rings and from reading another post, if I could get them, Porsche wants well over $500. Deves would be under $200. Can anyone recommend another brand?

Ed, I wouldnt use Deves rings on anything, theyre way too hard and tear the cyl surfaces up.
Thats my opinion but its also what I ve seen. What are the sizes you require to make a set? Bruce |

Is this the part: Pelican Parts - Product Information: OEM-91110390601
You should ring Pelican. What PET and the Pelican online catalog do not show is that the rings can be ordered individually. If you have the individual part numbers you may be able to order the rings through Pelican regardless of whether the set part number is still available. andy |

The 73 cis rings are a tough one.
911-103-941-00-OEM Porsche 911 Pistons, Cylinders, and Heads - Page 2 I've heard Deves were tough on cylinders, but wondered if with the steel cylinders it might not be an issue. Any suggestions? Quote:

Total seal, Hastings, and Pro Seal do not seem to stock the middle 1.75mm ring.

Evrything seems to have worked out. I found a vendor that had the correct Goetze rings. A little pricey at $250, but considering Porsche and all other vendors I contacted have none left in stock it is not bad.

Deves rings.....
I used them once on a hopped up 2.6 Liter V-6 Capri engine. Of course, that is a cast iron block! The engine was pretty hot and it held together for a bit over 65K miles before I sold the car. Don't really know what happened to it later. While they worked well on my application, they are probably not what you want in your Porsche engine!

Goetze Rings Quality Issues
For what it is worth, I just purchased a set of Goetze rings for my 3.6 and had to reject them. End gaps were greater than spec, even though the cylinders are fine (still show original hone markings). Also, the thickness of the rings was greater than the OEM. They did fit in the ring grooves, but they were extremely snug (less than 0.02 mm clearance). I finally decided to bite the bullet and bought Porsche OEM at 3x the cost of the Goetze's. I had been warned about the Goetze quality issues, and I guess I learned the hard way.
