p to v clearance

Is it possible to have too much piston to valve clearance?I wasn't able to touch the piston with the valve screwed all the way in at the proper crank positions.Thanks,t.c.

I don't think it's possible to have too much clearance, but it is possible you did the check wrong.

Contrary to what i used to know..The valves are closer to piston at mid stroke then any other point

I don't know what this means, but the intake valve is closest when the pistons is just past TDC and the exhaust valve is closest just before TDC. I check at around 5 to 10 degrees either side.
