Low Oil Pressure

I am doing a stock rebuild on my original 1973.5 911 T engine. The engine was running OK, but leaked and had low compression. I did notice that the oil pressure was running low. While everything is apart, is there something I can do to improve oil pressure?

Thank you!

Yes,

You can put a later year oil pump in and do the oil bypass mod. There are dozens of threads on here about this and all the rebuild books also cover. If you don't have Waynes or Bruce Anderson's book you need one.

New bearings. Less clearance means higher pressure.

Oil Pressure

Be sure to install new springs on the oil pressure relief valve and the bypass valve. They are the two valves that have large round caps/plugs on the bottom and side of the block near the flywheel. Two different springs so don't get them mixed up!

All good advice. Thank you all. If I do the bypass and install the new springs (parts available from our host), will I get better oil pressure with retaining the original oil pump? Or do I need an updated pump? Also, I have heard that it is possible to send my old pump out to be modified to improve performance. Anyone know who does this? Thank you!

I sent my 4-rib pump to Henry at Supertec last week for this mod and he turned it around in one day. Great service.

You need a later pump from a 76-83 car. Get a used one from this forum or from a dismantler.
