Rev limit on a Carrera 3.2 (3.4) with ARP rod bolts?
What would be an acceptable rev limit for my 3.4 with ARP rod bolts?
It has stock rods, ARP rod bolts, stock valvetrain for a C3.2, and 3.4 Max Moritz flat top pistons. I have a ginormous turbo now (Borg Warner S366) and this thing wants to rev to the sky. I'm already turning it to 6500 now and before with the stock rod bolts, I "money-shifted" to well over 8000 RPM without failure. TIA ![]() |

I will tell you that if you persist in running past 7400 RPM in its current configuration, your wallet is going to undergo a severe shrinking.
![]() ![]() You didn't say anything about the cams you run so I cannot offer you constructive input, however I would not rev your engine past 7K without better rods and a whole host of oiling modifications to the case, crank & bearings as well as 930 oil pump (or better). Stock 3.2 cams are ALL done by 6400 RPM so thats as far as you should go unless you make a lot of changes.

Hello Sir Steve
![]() This turbo easily makes up for the 3.2's shortcomings. ![]() ![]()

Stay under 7000 rpm. Your reciprocating weights are pretty heavy and will put stress on the rod bearings.

Ok. I think I'll keep the 6500 programmed in my MegaSquirt because I saw 66XX in my datalogs in 1st and don't want to risk damage.
Thanks again! |

I run mine to 6800 with stock internals, been doing that for 5-6 years now. I have a "soft" limit at 6800 so I know when to step off the gas and a hard limit at 7000 that I might have touched one or twice.

Yeah, I like the soft as it warns you to let off and probably helps to not overshoot the hard limit.
Thanks for input! |
