Ultrasonic cleaning?
Does anyone know of a shop in the Washington DC area that does ultrasonic cleaning of engine parts? If so, who would that be?

Typically you will find Ultrasonic Cleaning around Airports that have services for the maintenance of Aircraft.

Second for Bob. I took my heads to him then a bunch of parts to be cleaned .. ie transmission cases etc. Quick turn around. Im up in Baltimore and drove up. HE actually met me a convenient location instead of driving all the way to his shop ... saved be 40 miles of driving each trip.

I just bought one of the harbor freight 2.5 liter ultrasonic cleaners for cleaning hardware. Good for anything the size of a con rod or smaller. Possibly could fit the case through bolts in diagonally, or two pistons side by side.
Works pretty well. Only $69.99 with coupon right now, plus $20 for the 2 year warranty (I hear they typically stop working after a while)

Thanks for the suggestion about the airport shops and Harbor Freight. I'll look into that more.
I did have a very informative conversation w/Bob a e of days ago. I got the impression he wasn't interested in being in the parts cleanings business. I understand his reasoning which is why I was looking for another option. I'll definitely send my engine's heads to him to be redone.

I had the HF 2.5 liter unit. It wasnt all that great even for $60 with 25% off. Prob good for carbs in pieces but what really rubbed me the wrong way was the timer. It only runs for 15 min or so then turns off. You have to consistently go back and forth to turn it back on. For the money I would rather just save up and buy a 15L unit for $500-600 online. One you get a larger unit youll use it for everything and will never look at a normal parts washer ever again, lol.
Yeah I can see why he wasnt to just do head work. I know he is still doing a fair bit of cleaning. I looked in MD in the baltimore area and really didnt find anyone who returned my calls about cleaning. GL. |
