I'm not having luck with the Stomski tool drilling and only leaving a spring. I am going to drill and Helicoil. Do I use Loctite on the Helicoil, between the Helicoil and the stud, both, neither? Thanks in advance.
OR.... can I run a jewelers file down one side of the hole to make a split in the stud threads to make a starting point in each turn of the thread to pull each thread out with a dental pick. Cheers, Mike.

No loctite needed on installing Heli-coils.
But...I don't understand the filing idea...are you removing some coils? If so...I usually just lift (dental pick or similar) the first (outer) thread of the old coil...and use a pair of needle nosed pliers to wrap up (around the pliers) the threads of the coil as I remove it. Does this help? Bob

I'm talking about running a file straight down the hole perpendicular to the threads to split each circumferential ring. I would have a straight cut through the body threads straight down. Depending on how thick the file is.

OK...you are talking about removing the old heli coil.
Like I said before...I take them out as one piece. I grab the top of the old coil and use needle nose pliers to grab and wrap the coil up around the nose of the pliers using a twisting action....like twirling your fork to wrap up spagetti. If you wrap the coil up tight enough...you pull the coil threads out from the parent metal without damaging the original heli-coil cut bigger thread. And...if necessary...just chase the now empty hole with a heli-coil tap to clean out any debris...and install the new heli-coil. Bob

Yep, I was able to do what you said on most of the holes. I put a new Helicoil in one hole. Thanks.
Cheers, Mike.
