max moritz pistons

Some guy called Uncle Zak has a set of Max Moritz pistons for sale on eBay. I think the sale ends in two days or so.

He wants $700 for a buy it now, but that seems kind of steep for sight-unseen used pistons, with "light mileage" even if they are the fabled Max Moritz. I bid $300, and it didn't get me anywhere. Could anyone give me an approximate value of these?

Another question: if I were to buy a set of used 3.2 pistons, and combine them with a 964 cam, and an early 911 exhaust, would this come close to the Max Moritz stuff?

Thanks.

Daniel Crockett

You need one of these: http://www.101projects.com before you start bidding on eBay. Don't mean to sound condescending, but it's true.

Case in point: regular 3.2 pistons and cylinders will not work with your 3.0L (these pistons on eBay will though). You need to make sure that you get the specific big bore pistons that will work with the 3.0L crank. I just picked up a set of these last month (last set in the states) for $3600 (retail).

You can use the standard 3.2 cylinders with these pistons and your 3.0L crank.

Another option would be to have custom pistons made by JE, replicas of these. The cost for these JE pistons would probably be around $1000 or a little more (don't know the costs). Used cylinders would be about $800 or so, depending upon condition...

Zak has a pretty good rep on this BBS, ask him about the ring groove measurements (if you had the book, you'd know which questions to ask) and ovality.

Another thing to keep in mind (also in the book) is that these pistons will not work with the 964 cams or your CIS cams and fuel injection. You need to replace your fuel injection...

I don't know if they are the same ones, the Ebay ad isn't very detailed, but Unclezac bought the set I was selling here:

Mahle 98mm Max Moritz pistons for SC

The pink bubble-wrap looks familiar though.
