Radiator shock insulation

Not sure if this fits in the engine rebuilding area or not -- but I figure there are a few fabricators online as well.

I need to build a custom frame for an aluminum radiator for our race car.

I'm trying to find a source for rubber insulation material.

Figure I would take some light sheet metal bend up a frame and line it with
rubber for shock absorption. I'm generally pretty resourceful -- but this
seems to have me stumped.

Love to find a source,

thanks,

Mike

If you're talking about a water radiator for your 924 race car, I would post your question in the 924/944/968 forum. The guys who read this forum could help you mount your 911 oil cooler but wouldn't be much help on how to hang a radiator for a water pumper.

Check out isolators from McMaster-Carr.
They are the things that have a stud on each end with rubber in between.
They come in many sizes and mass holding capacity.
The resiliance of the rubber (stiffness) is also a factor.
We used them on racing buggies for all sorts of vibration prone to damage things.

If you have the time, perhaps a visit to your local Pik-a-Parts wrecking yard. Pull a few radiators and see what different vehicles use and observe their methods of supporting the radiator. Rubber radiator mounts from a large displacement engine should be beefy enough; maybe less costly than adapting an industrial product. Resiliance would be important.
