Engine ID

I dissembled a 911 Engine and need some help with identifying it.

Engine Case - 901.101.101.7R (Mag)
Engine Number - 6144535
Weber Carbs - 40 IDA 3C - 5L
Cam Housing - 901.105.111.OR

What I am baffled with...
the heads are label 73 but the pistons are JE 90mm (2.7?) aren't 1973.5 heads 2.4?

Any information would be great!

Here are the locations of the numbers, which you have found with the serial number but you also need to find the "type" number which is circled in yellow.

From what I recall, that might be a 74 engine. 3rd digit is the year ( I think )...

The engine case is from a 74 2.7 liter CIS
90 mm is a 2.7 if the crank is the original 70.4 stroke from the case.
The 73 on the head is the date of casting. It could be a 2.4 or 2.7 MFI, 2.4 CIS (73.5) or a 2.7 head.
If it is an MFI head it will have a thread boss for the injector near the intake studs.
If it is a 2.4 CIS head there will be an injector mount pressed into the head.
If it is a 2.7 CIS head it will have a slot cut in the intake port for injector.

Thanks gentleman.

The heads have a slot cut in the intake port for the injector, so it's a 2.7 head. It just through me off b.c the diameter of the head was 88mil, not a true 90mil.

So it's a 2,7!!

THANK YOU!

Well, they are 2.7 heads at least.....

You never know with an older engine, it could be a "bitsa" engine....
